Education at DPS Mandla Road is an integrated process with a flexible curriculum in varied domains that takes into account the heterogeneity of the students and their learning capabilities. The school focuses on child-centric education and offers project-based, experiential, and progressive learning. 

Curriculum

Delhi Public School, Mandla Road, Jabalpur is affiliated to CBSE with classes from Pre Nursery to XII.

The Curriculum is based on CBSE directives and NCERT course. All aspects of academics are taken care of with due emphasis on interactive learning.

The core curriculum is designed to give students an in-depth mastery of the academic disciplines and applied functional areas. The curriculum gives students a balance of theoretical and practical knowledge that facilitates a learning environment where students learn, analyze and apply — rather than merely know. The nurturing of a child’s academic curiosity and development is at the centre of our curriculum.

Pre School & Kindergarten

Learning at this stage is experiential, fun & activity based. The pedagogical processes followed are based on developmentally appropriate methods with multiple teaching and learning strategies. The child is the central figure and an active participant in the teaching learning process. Children enjoy the freedom to explore, express, create and interact within their environment and gain knowledge. Children at this stage:

  • Identify self by specific abilities, characteristics and preferences (e.g., by gender, age, as part of a family, friends, colours, food etc.)
  • Develop a sense of balance and physical coordination through play.
  • Learn language through activities like role play, story telling, poetry recitation, singing and reading through age appropriate and level based books.
  • Understand to analyse their actions as right or wrong.
  • Learn to be friends with children from diverse backgrounds, celebrate various festivals, sing and dance together.
  • Learn to live in harmony with their environment, make observations, enquire and ask questions – what, how & why.
  • Relate a numeral to its respective quantity, associate value to a number and Identify shapes by names: curved and straight lines, circle, square, triangle and understand spatial relationships.
  • Learn to manage their feelings and emotions and learn appropriate behaviour.
  • Demonstrate the ability to begin to assume responsibility for their own safety within their environment.
  • Learn values, life skills, build relationships and grow up as confident and responsible citizens.

Primary Classes I to V

At this stage too, the curriculum supports experiential learning, focuses on conceptual clarity by relating learning to everyday life, developing thinking and analytical skills. The curriculum also aims at nurturing the affective domain of the learners through subjects and activities which will help develop the basic life skills in the learner – self-awareness, effective communication skills and emotional strength. The learning areas include:

  • Languages (English, Hindi) – Acquire the skills of listening, speaking, reading & writing, acquire varied range of vocabulary, develop interpersonal communication skills and express meaningfully.
  • Mathematics – Performing operation of numbers, understanding shapes, similarities and differences, collecting data, representing and analysing the data, identifying patterns in shapes and numbers etc.
  • Environmental Science – To make them aware of their surroundings, appreciative of and sensitive of environmental issues (natural, physical, social and cultural)

Academics VI to VIII

The students at this level are exposed to a wide range of subjects and study materials that are graded according to the Uniform System of Assessment and the new CBSE guidelines.

The curriculum emphasizes Visual and Performing Arts, and Value Education, and General Knowledge. Interactive sessions are held during Value Education classes to promote moral values and general awareness.

Academics IX to X

It aims to give students a well-rounded and balanced understanding of subjects including languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. This education helps students develop the ability to communicate effectively, analyze information, make informed decisions, construct a world view based on constitutional values, and become productive citizens.

Academics XI to XII

At this level, the syllabus becomes more diverse and students are gradually exposed to a wide range of subjects and study materials that are appropriately graded according to the Uniform System of Assessment and the new CBSE guidelines. In addition to core subjects like Maths, English Core, Hindi Core, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, History, Political Science, Computer Science, various Optional Subjects are introduced like Knowledge of Traditions and Practices of India, Tourism, Artificial Intelligence, Physical Education, Hindi Core etc.

The curriculum also emphasizes Visual and Performing Arts, Value Education, and General Knowledge.

Students get an exposure of learning by doing in well maintained labs.

External Exams

The school encourages the learners to participate in External exams like NCO, NSO, IEO, IGKO, IMO, ICO, ISSO, NSTSE, NTSE, VVM and many more which motivates the students to strive for a better and deeper understanding of different subjects. The students are enriched through special coaching by trained faculty. Every year a large number of students appear for different subject Olympiads. Many of them secure Zonal and State ranks.

    Green Olympiad

  • Students are encouraged to be sensitized towards environment.
  • The Green Olympiad Exam is another endeavor of the school in this direction.
  • The learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles.

    PRMO and RMO

  • The PRMO (Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad) is the first level of the Mathematics Olympiad, conducted in the school.
  • The PRMO exam for school students is administered by the ‘Mathematics Teachers’, while the remaining rounds are administered by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).
  • The students qualify in PRMO in order to advance to the next round or the RMO exam.

    Preparation For Olympiads

  • Olympiad Exams are a unique feature of DPS Mandla Road.
  • The Olympiad competitions are organized annually to find young talents, right from classes 1 to 12.
  • The authorities hold Olympiad tests in different subjects like Maths, Science, English, Social Science, Computers and General Knowledge etc.
  • Practice Worksheets and Olympiad Worksheets of different subjects are prepared by the expert teachers of DPS to make the students confident and exam ready.
  • Students are free to choose the subjects they want to study and appear in the concerning Olympiad examination.

Internationalism

Our school being top schools in Jabalpur, has been awarded with the International dimensions in school curriculum by the British Council United Kingdom (2020-23). The school had also bagged the International School Award consecutively two times for 2014-2017 and 2017-2020.

We worked on 7 projects and collaborated with schools in Japan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan etc. Students were working on two of the projects.

Student's Exchange Programme

The school believes cross-cultural learning and studying abroad can be transformative. Nobody can discover the world for somebody else. The students of the school enjoy student exchange programmes to broaden their learning. The renowned Rotary Club of Jabalpur and DPS Mandla Road joined hands to host two students from Venezuela under the Youth Exchange Programme. Juan Diego and Paola Sanchez served as ambassadors for their country, benefitting through immersion in Indian culture and in turn learnt to adapt to a new way of life.

Excursions

At DPS Mandla Road, we believe it is better to see something once than hear about it a thousand times. Travel is definitely the greatest teacher that allows students to take away memories and leave footprints. The school organizes field trips and excursions regularly as part of its curriculum.

Educational Field Trips

The students are taken for educational field trips frequently as it helps in developing a subtle understanding of various local and global issues. It helps them to become more empathetic and respectful towards awareness by broadening their horizons.
